Gibbs Station 1-CS 930104To: From: RE: Date.: MY2VlO Howard Pafford, Water Superintendent Clay Phillips, Fire Chief Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E., City Engineer'~-~ Periodic Flushing of Fire Hydrants January 4, 1993 Recently a utility contractor flushed a fire hydrant at the intersection of Warren Crossing and Beverly Drive in the Gibbs Station I subdivision. Immediately across the street from the fire hydrant is an existing gravel driveway. The velocity and quantity of water from the fire hydrant mused damage to the driveway, thereby creating a complaint from the property owner to the Council, to the City Manager, and to the Engineering Department. Upon investigation of this area, it was found that typical surface drainage would not create a problem to this driveway, but the periodic flushing of the fire hydrant could continue to cause problems. I have spoken with Richard Terry and Howard Pafford concerning this issue and have requested that in the future, when flushing this particular fire hydrant, that a hose be utilized to divert the water down either Warren Crossing or Beverly Drive. Howard Pafford stated that they could use a 50 foot hose when flushing this fire hydrant. The future cooperation of the Fire Department and Public Works Department would be greatly appreciated in regards to the flushing of this fire hydrant. If you should have any questions concerning this issue, please feel free to contact me at your convenience. cc: Alan D. Ratliff, City Manager
