Subject: On 06-18-96 at 8:17 p.m. I worked an accident at
Southwestern Blvd. and Freeport Pkwy. This area has had several
accident in the past. The cause of the accident are trucks
trying to make a turn north onto Freeport Pkwy from Southwestern
Blvd.. The trucks run over the curb and hit the rocks that have
been placed there by TSTI 652 Southwestern Blvd.. I spoke with
the owner of TSTI, and he stated the rocks are there to protect
the gas main on the corner. I request that your department draw
a plan to resolve the problem. I would suggest either a "no
right turn" or have the gas company move the gas main. Another
solution would be redesigning the intersection to allow trucks to
make a safe turn. In the accident that occurred on 06-18-96, the
loss of property was in excess of $3000.00 to the truck, and
$200.00 to the landscape rocks. This memorandum comes at the
request of the police administration, and a response would be
appreciated. This is my second request for your department look
into this problem. Since my first memo to you there have been
four more accidents at this location involving trucks. If I can
be of any assistance in this matter please contact me. I would
like for you to leave me a voice mail at 304-3614 #2511, and let
me know what needs to be done, what time line, and if I can help.
Thanks again.
