ST9702-CS 960619Memorandum Date: 06-19-96 To: From: Ken Griffin Robert Kubicek, Patrol Officer Subject: On 06-18-96 at 8:17 p.m. I worked an accident at Southwestern Blvd. and Freeport Pkwy. This area has had several accident in the past. The cause of the accident are trucks trying to make a turn north onto Freeport Pkwy from Southwestern Blvd.. The trucks run over the curb and hit the rocks that have been placed there by TSTI 652 Southwestern Blvd.. I spoke with the owner of TSTI, and he stated the rocks are there to protect the gas main on the corner. I request that your department draw a plan to resolve the problem. I would suggest either a "no right turn" or have the gas company move the gas main. Another solution would be redesigning the intersection to allow trucks to make a safe turn. In the accident that occurred on 06-18-96, the loss of property was in excess of $3000.00 to the truck, and $200.00 to the landscape rocks. This memorandum comes at the request of the police administration, and a response would be appreciated. If I can be of any assistance in this matter please contact me.
