Creekview Add PD-CS 900803COPPE?.?.. PUBLIC WORKS ~MORANDUM DATE August 3, 1990 FROM RE: Dale Jackson, Building Official Shohre'Daneshmand, Acting City Engineer ~ Floodplain Activity - Proposed Deck Creekview North Addition/601 Tower Court I have ~eviewed the above referenced, proposed deck in detail. As you know, we have received the draft City Wide Storm Water Management Study prepared by Albert H. Halff and Associates, which identifies that there is severe erosion in Grapevine Creek between Denton Tap Road and Moore Road (see attached Fig. VI-1.) I asked that the requestee, Mr. David Gregg with Northlake Fence, provide me with (as minimum) surveyed sections, grading plan, slope stability analysis, structural analysis and details for posts (piers), etc. prepared by a registered professional engineer and surveyor. I have received some of the needed information which has.been helpful, but not complete. Based on my review, it is apparent that in the case of 100-year storm, the proposed posts will be partly under water (100-year water surface elevation is (481.9'.). For this reason, it is important that said posts are designed by a structural registered .engineer, who should check the foundation stability. Therefore, we recommend that proposed deck be designed by a structural engineer, and that the requestee provide the City with a letter holding the City harmless of any damages that may result from this floodplain activity. In conclusion, if above requirements are met, we donft have any objection to this proposal. Please note that one item, in favor of this request, is that the proposed deck appears to be about ninety feet (90') away from the Creek's top of the bank, requiring inspection by your staff. Attached, please find a draft copy, for our immediate use, of some recommended requirements for building permits along creeks and in floodplain areas prepared by our consultant, Albert H. Halff, which will be included in the final Storm Water Management Report. Please call, if you have any questions. xc: Steven G. Goram, Director of Public Works Gregg Jones, Building Inspector
