In addition, SE&T would like to state the following comments:
Water reducing agents can be added to improve the workability of the
concrete
Full time field monitoring of addition of water to fresh concrete is very
vital in assuring the strength & durability of even the best of
concrete. Therefore, we recormt~end that a technician to be present full
time to monitor the water with every concrete pour.
Four concrete cylinders per 100 to 150 yards of fresh concrete per day
pour is satisfactory for pavement.
It has been a pleasure serving you on this project and we trust that this
report is satisfactory. If you have any questions regarding this report,
please do not hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours,

Subject: REPORT OF A TWO CONCRETE MIX DESIGNS
Proposed Pavements At:
The Hollows @ Northlake Woodlands
Coppell, Dallas County, Texas
Site Concrete Project No: 99-12
SE&T Project No: 172Q/E-99
Madam:
SAM Engineering & Testing, Inc. (SE&T) is pleased to submit this report of
the following two concrete mix designs.
1. We understand that the proposed pavements will require concrete with:
28-days Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) of 3000/3600 psi.
Air Entrained (AE) to ASTM C-260 & supplied by Master builders.
Water Reducing (WR) additive to ASTM C-494 supplied by Master Builders.
Type I Cement to ASTM C-150 with specific Gravity (SG) = 3.15.
1" Coarse Aggregates (Cagg.) with SG = 2.66.
Fine Aggregates (Sand) with SG = 2.64.
A minimum of 60% by volume of Cagg.
2. Assuming that the amount of fine in Cagg. & Sand (fineness modulus) are
minimal and that the amount of water was adjusted to compensate for
absorption & moisture of Cagg. & Sand.
3. Using the above data & assumptions, the supplied City of Coppell/ASTM
design guidelines, our experience; we recommend the following mix design
parameters:
a. 5 Sack-Machine Work: UCS = 3000 psi
Min. Cement = 470 pounds (2.39 cubic feet)
Max. Water = 226 pounds (3.62 cubic feet)
Max. water/cement = 0.48
Cagg. = 1960 pounds (11.81 cubic feet)
Sand = 1290 pounds (7.83 cubic feet)
AE @ 3-5% = 40z (1.35 cubic foot)
Slump = 2" to 4"
Unit Weight = 146 pounds per cubic foot
