SUBJECT: Fire Lanes for the Proposed Hagar Box Company
The City of Coppell Code of Ordinances Section 15-5-5 with Exhibits 15-I, 15-2, 15-3,
and 15-4 describe the criteria for lanes as required by the Hagar Box Company. The
UniX'otto Fire Code, 1985 Edition, Section 10207 further outlines the provision of the
requirements for fire apparatus access roads.
Basic descriptions of the code are:
I. 24' wide
2. All weather surface
3. All parts of the building(s) must be within 150' of a fire lane
4. If a fire lane is over 150' long and is not connecting with an approved exit lane,
then the fire lane must have a turn around that conforms to Exhibit 15-4
5. Copies of the Code and exhibits are attached.

A. When part of the private road is selected as a fire lane by the '~-~'
Fire Chief, or his authorized representative, it shall be marked along
the perimeter with conspicuous signs in accordance with the
specifications shown on Exhibits 15-! and 15-2, and where a curb
exists, the sign sha~l bare the words "FIRE LANE - NO PARKING"
painted:
1. in four inch high letters - white in color; (Ord. 86-357)
2. at 15 foot intervals; (Ord. 86-357)
3. on a contrasting background stripe - red in color, six inches
wide; (Ord. 86-357)
B. Shall be free of all obstructions which pose a substantial threat of
interference .to Fire Department, fire fighting or rescue activities.

C. Shall be constructed in accordance with the specifications set out
in Exhibits 15-3 and 15-4 and shall be surfaced with a material
substantial to support any Fire Department vehicle. (Ord. 86-357)
D. Shall be maintained so that it remains structurally unaffected during
inclement weather. (Ord. 86-357)
E. The operator of premises shall maintain, free of obstruction, all fire
lanes on his premises. (Ord. 86-357)
F. No .person may mark, post, or otherwise identify a non-fire lane,
private vehicular passageway:
1. as a fire lane; or (Ord. 86-357)
2. in such a manner as tends to create confusion as to whether
the passageway is a fire lane. (Ord. 86-357)
O. No person may park non-emergency vehicles in a fire lane. (Ord.
86-357)
H. An unauthorized vehicle in a fire lane is:
1. subject to removal by the operator of the premises, with the
expense of removal and storage to be borne by the registered
owner of the vehicle; (Ord. 86-357)
2. subject to citation, as well as removal, by. the Fire Chief,
his authorized representative, or a peliee officer; (Ord. 86-
357)
3. prima faeie evidence that the person in whose name tl~e' -.

CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS POR FIRE LANES
1. Construction - Fire lanes shall be constructed of an all-weather driving surface
having a capability to support a 40,000 pound vehicle.
2. Width - Fire lanes shall be a minimum of 24 feet in width.
3. Height - A minimum of 14 feet of clear height shall be available above all fire
lanes.
4. Dead-ends - Dead-end fire lanes shall not exceedS50 feet.
5. Turn-arounds - When it is not possible to connect a fire lane at both ends to a
dedicated street, approved turn-around installations shall be provided. For
approved fire lane turn-arounds, see "Illustration 1."
6. Turn radius - All fire lane turns shall have a 30-foot inside radius and 50-foot
outside radius.
7. Markings - Markings approved by the Building Official or the Fire Chief or his
authorized representative shall be posted in conspicuous places along fire lanes
stating "Fire Lane - blo Parking."
