Dear Mr. Martin,
As you know, the First United Methodist Church of Coppell is building a new, sanctuary at the
comer of Heartz and Bethel Rd. The required parking lot for this facility was completed in
3anuary and is currently in use on Sunday mornings. The pedestrian traffic flow to and from the
existing sanctuary is concerning us. Several incidents have been reported over the last three
months where people, particularly children, have stepped into the traffic on Heartz. The fact that
cars are allowed to park on both sides of the street magnifies the problem, because the kids are
darting out from behind the parked cars. This is dangerous and we would like your help in
improving the situation. I have enclosed a sketch for your consideration which depicts two
sidewalks, each located at the pedestrian entrances to the parking lot. It also suggests limiting
the parking along Heartz. This would allow a driver to have a clearer view' of pedestrians as they
approach the street.
We realize that there are many issues that must be considered when adding a sidewalk an~'or
changing the parking status along a street, and would appreciate any input or direction that you
could give us. The new sanctuary is scheduled to be completed in November. At that time, I
would anticipate the number of people using the parking lot and crossing the street to increase.
Due to the safety issues involved, we would like to proceed with a solution as soon as possible.
