Dear Mr. Griffin:
On October 12. 1998 a representative of GEE Consultants. Inc. obtained two (2) samples of the
exposed pavement subgrade material at the above referenced project. The purpose of our salnpling
was to obtain a moisture/density relationship curve for determining In-Place Densities as well as
confirming the non-necessity for lime stabilization.
/he samples were transported to the laboratory and classification tests were performed. /he test
results are as follows:

Sample Location: West End of Firelane Paving
Sample Depth: 6" to 8"
Sample Description: Brown Silty Clay
Liquid Limit: 45
Plastic Limit: 16
Plasticity Index: 29

Sample Location: East End of Firelane Paving
Sample Depth: 6" to 8"
Sample Description: Dark Brown Silty Clay
Liquid Limit: 41
Plastic Limit: 15
Plasticity.' Index: 26
Based on the above plasticity index test results, it is our recommendation that a lime series be run
to establish the lime needed for subgrade stabilization. This is in contradiction to our previous
recomlnendation of August 19. 1998 which was based on borings which were advanced prior to
colnplete subgrade exposure. In lieu of lime, one (1) inch of additional concrete thickness could be
utilized.
