Re: Sandy Lake Road Reconstruction
Coppell Project #: ST 93-02
Kimley-Horn Project #: 06940600
DWU Project #: 98-31IF
Dear Mr. Griffin:
With regard to previous discussions regarding full closure of the Sandy Lake/MacArthur
intersection to excavate and pave the intersection, representatives from EBCC and Garreth have
discussed this concept in more depth. As a result, EBCC has evaluated this alternative and feels
that the following proposal will benefit the traveling public, the City of Coppell, and EBCC:
1. Close the intersection at some time on a Friday evening. Excavate the subgrade to a
depth of eight inches below the proposed top of subgrade. Import eight inches of 6% cement
treated base (CTB), compact the base to conform to the lines and grades of the proposed
intersection, and prime the subgrade. This phase of the work would be completed by mid
afternoon on Saturday. On Sunday, EBCC would construct cold mix ramps through the
intersection and open the intersection to traffic. Enclosed for your review is a copy of the TXI
CTB mix design.
2. On the following weekend, EBCC would close the intersection early Saturday
morning and begin setting forms and steel. EBCC would pour the intersection, less the
intersection radius areas, by late Saturday afternoon with CL K (Mod) concrete. CL K (Mod)
concrete will achieve adequate strength within 24 hours. EBCC would open the through lanes 07
the intersection by rush hour the following morning. ~ ~','-o ob ~ -~ '
3. During the following week, EBCC would form and pour the intersection radius areas
utilizing conventional concrete.
4. During the following several weeks, the stamped concrete pedestrian crossings and
diamond would be completed in phases. ~ ~o~-c. 4 ~0x°'t-c c,o~
EBCC would anticipate paymenJ/~or the excavation and concrete work utilizing pay items added
to the contract via change order. EBCC would propose that payment for the subgrade work
could be accomplished utilizing the existing subgrade stabilization item and the planned quantity
of lime for the actual subgrade area constructed with CTB.

Re: Sandy Lake/MacArthur Road Intersection
Pending your decision regarding this proposal, EBCC is prepared to schedule the work affected
by the intersection closure during the earliest possible two weekend window acceptable to the
City of Coppell. Please advise regarding this proposal.
