WA9902-CS010830 August 30, 2001 City of Dallas Randy Stalnaker, Manager Wholesale Services Division Water Utilities Department City Hall 1500 Marilla Dallas, Texas 75201 RE: Sandy Lake Road Pump Station / Starleaf Pump Station~..~ ~ Dear Mr. Stalnaker: This letter is written in response to your August 6, 2001 letter requesting that the City provide a timetable for the abandonment of the Sandy Lake Road metering facility. The City is currently in negotiations with the property owner to the south to execute a land swap of the existing Sandy Lake pump station property for property to construct a pump station for the City of Coppell. It is our intent to complete this land transaction before the end of the year. The City will then begin the process of soliciting bids for the demolition of the existing 0.5 million gallon tank and other structures located on the property. The City offers no objections to the City of Dallas removing its equipment from the vault and cutting and plugging the water line to the vault. The City of Coppell will construct a second pump and metering station approximately 1500 feet south and 1000 feet west of the current Sandy Lake Road pump station. Our timetable for that construction is approximately two to three years away. At that time we will need access to the City of Dallas water line. Upon initial review of this situation, it is our opinion that access could be accomplished one of three ways: 1) extend the current water line that Dallas has at the Sandy Lake Road pump station south to a new metering station; 2) tap the existing Dallas water line (DFW main) approximately 1500 feet south of the current connection and then install a water line to a new metering station; or 3) negotiate with the City of Irving to allow Coppell to tap the Irving water line approximately 1500 feet south of Sandy Lake Road. We understand that with the new pump station, regardless of where we obtain water, our future maximum water supply from the City of Dallas is 29 million gallons per day. In summary, the existing Sandy Lake Road pump station can be abandoned at any time the City of Dallas chooses. The City of Coppell will later this year or early next year demolish the existing structures on the site and execute a land swap of that site for another site further south. 2!55 PARKWAY ~ P 0 BOX 478 ~' COPPELL TX 75019 ~' TEL 972/462 0022 'i' FAX 972/304 3673 If you should have any questions or need any additional information please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
