Re:
Kroger ~448 Coppell, TX ~ ~ 4.
Dear Mr. Sims,
In response to, and defense of, the memo written by R.D. Slayton on August 12, 1996. I
realize that the turn lane median at MacArthur Rd. was not acceptable on July 31, 1996.
Dennis was not happy with it that day and I immediately instructed Carruthers Landscaping to
rework the median. I reviewed the work and thought it to look extremely acceptable at this
point. Carruthers Landscaping and ! had spoken with some of the City of Coppell field
personnel and we all felt we were verbally signed off on the median. Carruthers Landscaping
watered it once and was instructed by The City of Coppell to leave the water off.
Now. twelve days later, through drought conditions, I am told it is not acceptable. The sod has
died and shrunk, allowing weeds to grow. The existing grass is overgrown. For these past 12
days The City of Coppell has not watered or mowed the median once. I am now in a position
to have to spend extra dollars to renew the median again. I spent 45 minutes yesterday
looking at the median and really only saw maintenance as being the problem. I have told
Dennis Slayton that I would repair the work, but I am personally upset that we have to spend
this money again.
! have worked extremely hard throughout this project to keep all City Inspectors and Officials
aware of all aspects of the project. I feel that letting the grass on that median die was not our
fault. Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at 24-697-8613
or paged at 214-332-9531.
Sincerely,
John D. Mortensen

RE: Kroger Left Turn Lane Project
Larry, please be advised that of this date David Christoper Inc. has not completed the
punchlist items that were agreed to. Still outstanding are the following items:
1. Lower the North and South ends of the median to match existing median
grades in this area.
2. Level areas that were disturbed during excavation by equipment and replace
disturbed turf areas with sod.
3. The duration between the time the construction began and new sod was
replaced, allowed an opportunity for weeds to establish in the disturbed
areas. Sod was placed over weed infested areas just before the opening of
Kroger. These areas will need to have weeds removed by hand or some other
acceptable method.
Should you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact this office at 304-3554.
