ST9302-CS000831 (3) NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 31, 2000 Contact: Sharon Logan, Community Information Officer (972) 304-7065 COPPELL RESIDENTS MAY EXPERIENCE BROWN WATER Some Coppell residents may find that when they turn on their faucets, brown water comes out. The water is not contaminated. The brown color originates from sediment flowing through the line. The city of Coppell put into service a new 30" water line late Wednesday. The problem is caused fi'om sediment that got into the water line during water line construction performed for the City by Ed Bell Construction. When the valves were opened, sediment was stirred up and began moving through the line. The City has been working through the night to flush the sediment through the system and clear the water. City crews are flushing the lines one section at a time and are working their way through the City's water line system. Not all residents have been affected. Many will not notice any discoloration. If they do experience discoloration, they are advised to turn on their cold water faucets to flush the sediment out of the system. Do so until the water runs clear. Citizens are advised to shut off their lawn irrigation systems until their interior water is nmning clear and the sediment is out of the system.
