Dear Mr. Griffin:
As you are aware, the option of enclosing a portion of the 16" water line in a 24" steel casing instead of
lowering the 16" water line (STA 54+07 Lt. to STA 55+97 Lt.) below the proposed storm sewer was
discussed at the April 20, 1999 monthly project status meeting. Pending the results of the engineering
feasibility study, this option will allow M-CO, our utility subcontractor, to complete this water line
adjustment prior to the water conservation season and eliminate the need to establish an extended closure
of Moore Road for the 16" water line lowering.
Elimination of the need to significantly lower the 16" water line will enable M-CO to complete the work
in less time than originally anticipated while the addition of the steel casing will increase the cost of the
adjustment. If the adjustment can be completed utilizing only 40 LF of steel casing, then the savings and
additional costs would essentially balance. The utilization of steel casing over the nominal length of 40
LF will increase the overall cost for this adjustment. We request that an item be established to
compensate M-CO for this cost. I have enclosed a copy of their analysis for three hypothetical steel
casing lengths.
Please inform our office of your decision regarding this request and the results of the engineering
feasibility study. If you have any questions regarding this issue, don't hesitate to contact our office.
Sincerely, ~ ,
