Dear Mr. Robinson:
I am responding to your October 2 letter, delivered to us on October 6, and specifically
to its reference to a tent permit request on property located at the site of the Lone Star
Country Club.
My first response to your request is that, administratively, we cannot issue a tent permit
within one day, as requested, because of our work load, prior commitments of the
Building Inspection office, and priorities of permit review established by the time and date
permit requests are filed with the office. We do, however, pride ourselves on expedient
turn-around, and can release a permit-provided all required information has been
submitted-within two to three days of permit application.
My second response is with reference to a conversation you and I had regarding the time
limit you feel needs to be attached to this tent permit, as well as my contention that an
extended time frame on the tent permit could be viewed as an extension to a non-
conforming use. We can issue a permit for erection of the tent not to exceed fourteen
days, and that permit could be re-issued one more time in any given year after a minimum
thirty day period between permits.
It would be my recommendation that you apply for a fourteen day permit now, and if that
is not sufficient, you file an application with the Board of Adjustment to obtain a ruling
which addresses our concern that more than a limited tent permit suggests expansion of
the existing non-conformity.
Board applications are filed at the Building Inspection office, the same location
procurement of a tent application is handled.
Your question regarding the flood plain issue is addressed by our Engineering office, and
is, therefore, not a topic of this correspondence
If questions remain with reference to the tent issue, I would be happy to discuss the City's
position at your convenience.
Yours truly,
