COPPELL, TEXAS
SUBJECT: REPORT ON CONDITION OF 27" INTERCEPTOR SEWER LINE
Pierce-Lunsford Associates, inc. has reviewed the video tape and TV
inspecuion Report completed by Construction Laser & Supply, Inc. for the
27' Interceptor Line in the Lakes of Coppell region of the District.
The camera inspecticn was performed from an existing manhole inside the
Sandy Lake Road Lift Station property at Sta 66+08, to Sta 114+02,
_~.~x~ma===y 430' east of the Meadows iV Subdivision. This cveral!
distance is approximately 4,794 linear feet, but approximately 1,264
linear feet of sewer line was excluded because it is in the area to be
abandoned via the Lakewood Estates Subdivislcn. A map is enclosed to
cu~!ine the ~crtion included in ~he camera inspecticn, and areas where
deficiencies were found within the existing sanita~z sewer system.
C';erail, ~he 27" interceptor Sewer Line was found to be in good
condition, esDecla!!y considering the line has been in service for over
15 years .... =_~ does appear to se some loss of asphalt zining, and
corrosion at the "cp cf the corrugated metal pipe in some areas, but it
dces nc~~e~ .... ~ corrcsicn ~ to the ~^~.~ '~ is likely ~o~ cause
serious failures in the near future. The inspection did, however, point
cut some sectlcns c~ the line are deficient, and reqaire replacement or
repair. These sections, listed from highest to lowest priority, are as
follows:
1. PARTIAL COLLAPSE OF PIPE - STA 86+20
The 27" sewer pipe has partially collapsed at Sta 86+20. Sewage
flow is continuing through this section, but the collapsed pipe and
debris are blocking about one-half the pipe diameter. However,
this deficient area is within the portion to be abandoned within
Lakewood Estates, so no remedial action is necessary.
2. DAMAGED PIPE & INFILTRATION STA 111+38 TO STA 113+37
This section of pipe is approximately 200' in length and has 7
individual leaks and/or damaged areas. The deficiencies are
centered in an area where a "finger lake" or canal was excavated
with the Lakes of Coppe!! project. A concrete drop structure was
placed in close proximity to the 27" interceptor line in the
damaged section. Because of the concrete drop structure and open
channel over the pipe, external repairs or replacement of the line
in this area will be significantly higher than under normal
conditions.
3. DAMAGED PIPE & INFILTRATION STA 103+59 TO 104+58
This section of pipe is approximately !00' in length and contains 4
individual leaks and/or damaged pipes. The deficient sewer pipe is
primarily confined to the MacArthur Boulevard ROW. Damage to the
line may have been done during placement of other utilities while
MacArthur Blvd. was being constructed. The most economical method
to repair this section is to replace it with a parallel system by
either open cut method or .~nce.g_o~..= boring of a new line. One
advantage in using the boring method would be less disruption to

traffic and existing utilities within the MacArthur Blvd. ROW. A
larger encasement pipe or carrier pipe is normally placed around
the interceptor line for protection and future expansion, in the
area cf a major street crossing like MacArthur Blvd.
4. DAMAGED PIPE & INFILTRATION STA 109+14 & 109+19
This area includes two deficient sections of pipe which include
water infiltration and partial pipe blockage. Since the pipe is in
an accssib!e area, repairs can be made by exposing the pipe and
making them from the outside, by pressure grouting from the inside,
or by replacing the pipe in place.
5. SEWER INFILTRATION AT STA 69+06 TO 69+71
This section of pipe is approximately 65' in length and contains 4
individual leaks. The deficient sewer is mainly within the Sandy
Lake Road ROW and leaks may have been caused by placement of
utilities in this area. We feel it would be most cost effective to
replace this section with a parallel line, to also allow for the
future widening of Sandy Lake Road. The ~ine should be placed via
an ,~ndergro~und boring, large enough to allow for installation of a
carrier pipe the full width of the proposed Sandy Lake Road ROW.
The replacement sewer line would then be placed and the existing
27" sewer ~ne abandoned in this area.
6. ISOLATED LEAKS & DAMAGED PIPE AT STA 102+05, 102+76 & 107+31
These repair locations are in isolated locations and involve minor
leaks in the pipe or at joints. In these areas, the pipe should be
exposed and repaired from ~he outside, or pressure grouted ~rom the
inside.
7. INFILTRATION AT M/tNHOLES STA 66+08 & 66+86
At these locations, there are leaks in the walls of the manholes.
Repairs should be made from the inside of the structures with the
use of cement grout and waterseaiing compound.
8. BUILDUP OF PIPE SLUDGE & DEBRIS
The video tape indicates a buildup of sludge and debris throughout
the length of the 27" interceptor line. We recommend that the
entire line be cleaned out with high pressure jet/vacuum type
e~aipment to r~move and dispose of the sludge buildup.
Pierce-Lunsford Associates, inc. is in the process of obtaining cost
estimates to correct the deficiencies outlined above. We appreciate the
opportunity to be of service on this project, and will discuss this
report, and the cost information we have received, at the November 9th
meeting of the Coppell MUD No. 1 Board of Directors.
Sincerely,
PiERCE-LUNSFORD ASSOCIATES, INC.
