Dear Mayor and members of the City Council:
This application was approved by P & Z with some recommendations. We would like to appeal
the request to delete our northen entrance, furnish a new entrance and a deceleration lane.
Please drive by the property prior to the August 11th hearing and notice the width of our
designated northern entrance. We sold the land to the self storage, with the intention that the
entrance would serve both properties. The self storage has two entrances, with the northern one
being narrower than the southern entrance. The southern entrance services only the new
addition to the warehouses. We are enclosing a flow of traffic to the self storage. At the present
time their occupancy rate is approximately 90%, which shows the traffic entering is not a major
factor.
Deceleration lanes are not necessarily a safety item. When coming from the north and turning
left, you would have to cross the south turn lane, 3 lanes plus deceleration lane, giving you 5
lanes of traffic to check. An example is turning into Minyard Center from the north, if there was
a deceleration lane, your would have 5 lanes to check and cross. Currently the emphasis is to
slow Denton Tap speed, rather than speed up the center lanes.
