Dear Sir:
Reference site is an approximately 49 acre tract adjacent to Highway 121 in Coppell, Texas.
Rone Engineers, Inc. was retained to perform a geotechnical investigation concerning the use
of the property to support residential construction as well as water resource features.
The general area, and portions of the reference tract have been mined in the past for sand
and gravel. This gave rise to a concern that garbage or other materials other than native soil
may have been used to fill the gravel pits when the mining was complete.
Because of the number of geotechnical borings planned for the site it was mutually agreed
that Rone Engineers would place an experienced environmental geologist in the field to
observe and;or sample the soil cuttings for the purpose of determining whether inappropriate
material was used for fill..
The borings were drilled on June 10 through 12, 1997. Twenty three borings were made
from depths varying between 15 to 30 feet. The environmental geologist was present during
all of the borings. He made visual observations of the material and field screened the
samples using an OVM instrument, which is a photo-ionization device. He did not note any
matedal in the cuttings of an environmental concern. Nor was there visual evidence of
staining, odors or presence of volatile organics on the basis of the OVM screening.
The geologist collected two groundwater samples from the north and south sides of the tract
which will be tested for metals and volatile organics. Theses samples were taken from open
boreholes. As such their results can not be representecl to be true water samples.
Nevertheless they have value on tile basis of a screening mechanism. We will provide the
results of the water testing when we have obtaJned them from the analytical laboratory.
