Northlake WE P1-6-CS 980501 232 Mockingbird Lane ~ t.9 ~- ~'h~! q ~.¢, rAJ OO~ Io~ ¢~0~ May 1, 1998 q ~ Mr. Ken Griffin ~ ~ ~ ~~ Tr~ficM~agemem ~; ~ · ~o ~~ ~q~, P. O. Box 478 CiW of Coppell ~ Coppell, Texas 75019 ~ I¥iq ~ De~ ~. ~iffin: I would like to make a suggestion concerning entering Sandy Lake Road from Mockingbird Lane. We need to have a left and a right lane at this intersection so that traffic doesn't stack up a half a block behind people who are turning left--a difficult feat at most times. In addition, the shopping center owned by St. Ann's that contains Ci Ci's pizza creates cross traffic and a false sense that these drivers have the right of way--rather than the reality that cars leaving the shopping center are exiting private property onto a public road. With three entrances to that shopping area, that entrance should be closed offto lesson the dangers to people entering Sandy Lake road from Mockingbird Lane. While I expect this situation will improve with the new road, we are still years away from completing Sandy Lake and the shopping center closure of that entrance should be a part of the plan. I know you continue to pursue the road improvements but the reality is what we deal with today. In the past, under Ray Gonzales I made two viable suggestions that were enacted--two left lanes turning from Sandy Lake onto Denton Tap and two lanes exiting from Mockingbird onto Beltline. However the young men I have had to deal with since his departure leave a lot to be desired in citizen satisfaction. The foreign-speaking fellow lectures me on how badly our roads are planned and another young man with a heavy southern accent does not seem to understand what I am trying to explain and puts me off. After dealing with both of them no less than three times, I consider it a waste of my time to make a phone call. So I must resort to writing letters and sending copies since I have been dismissed in the past--not very satisfactory for someone who has elected to stay in Coppell for fifteen years. Please study this issue at the worst times of the day--morning (and not after employees have arrived at work at 8 am but between 6:30 and 8) and evenings from the dismissal of school until nearly 7 pm and try to have a plan in place by the start of school next year at the latest. Our children attempting to cross the road to attend Middle School East are always in danger there also. I hope to hear from you on your plans and see this serious problem resolved. My work number until May 22 is 972-221-0909 and home is 462-7737 with an answering machine available. Sincerely, c Jim Witt City Manager
