Subgrade Preparation

Gentlemen:
Representative samples of the paving subgrade were obtained from the referenced site
returned to the laboratory and evaluated for the most effective method of subgrade
preparation. Considering the characteristics of the soil and laboratory tests, it is
recommended six-percent cement (27 pounds per square yard) be used to prepare the
paving subgrade within the City of Coppell easement. As an alternative, the upper six-
inches may be excavated and replaced vdth Texas Department of Transportation, Item
247, Flexible Base, Type A, Grade 2, or better. The subgrade with either alternative
should be compacted to a minimum 95-Percent Standard Proctor Density within minus
two to plus four of the optimum moisture content.
