Subject: Memo to the Mayor
Candy,
I spoke with a couple of city officials today, including Greg Jones,
about the lack of progress on the construction of Fairway Drive between
Riverchase and Beltline.
It is the understanding of the residents of Riverchase that the City
agreed not to issue any occupancy permits to the new apartments on
Riverchase until Fairway Drive was complete and available to relieve the
traffic congestion at MacArthur and Riverchase.
The apartments are advertising a July availability to prospective
tennants. The section of roadway that the apartments agreed to build is
neady complete. There is no visable progress on the railroad crossing
or the new intersection (the portion that the City is responsible for).
The city officials are telling me that the road will not be complete
until August or September. I was given several excuses as to why the
city has delayed this project. (The city has known for at least a year
that Fairway Drive would be built. Late bids and purchase orders and
waiting for stoplights and crossing arms is not an acceptable excuse.)
I believe that Greg Jones feels that he must issue the occupancy permit
to the apartments even though Fairway Ddve is not complete.
The City made a commitment to the residents of Riverchase that Fairway
Drive would be complete and relieve traffic pressures BEFORE the
apartments opened.
I am requesting that you demand that the City honor its commitment to
us.
I can be reached at (972) 946-3263 during business hours if you have any
questions.
Thank you,
Cletus Glasener
