RE: Fairway Drive ST 96-04
Dear Sir:
The following represents either observations or concerns that the City of Coppell has
concerning the proposed design of Fairway Drive and the railroad crossing. Once you
have had the opportunity to review these comments, please feel flee to contact me at
your earliest convenience so that we can discuss any issues that you may have with the
comments. As has been stated throughout this process it is important for the City of
Coppell to rapidly move forward with this project and bring it to bid, construction and
completion as soon as possible.

1. ls there a problem or a reason why we cannot obtain a 0.5% slope on the proposed
and future roadway?
2. Show all existing utilities o~ the profile view.
3. There appears to be inaccurate elevations provided in the profile view on the
proposed 48" RCP.
Remove and dispose of the existing wooden barricade across the Fairway Drive
entrance and salvage the existing metal guardrail and transport to the City's storage
site at Royal and Bethel Road.
5. The lime stabilized subgrade should be 30 lbs. per/sy minimum.
6. Please comment as to what the pipe on the east side of the railroad crossing that ties
into the proposed storm drainage pipe is and will it be installed wi~_ this project.
7. Some of the existing paving in thilf..approach has failed, therefore,i should be
removed and replaced with this project.
8. Include Eller Sign Company in the contact list and provide the telephone number,
which is (817) 640-4550.
9. Show existing trees on the north side of the railroad tract with a note that the
contractor should remove and dispose of same.

1. Please provide some information as to what extentq~ailroad ~;ontrols ~m
t~ it will be
designing and constructing. Does it include all associated signage.,etc?
2. The crossarms should be relocated so that they also block access across the
sidewalk. It is anticipated that children in this area i~ will be walking
along this route to access a proposed elementary school in the Valley Ranch area.
3. Please give some thought to installing a small curb on either side of the railroad
crossing to prevent vehicles from driving around the crossing arms when they are
lowered for oncoming '~n~s. If you have a concern with this please contact me so
that it can be discusse e i:tesign being performed by Railroad Controls
~ include synchronization with the proposed traffic light?

1. Show the proposed roadway to the south to service the apartment complex (see
attached plan).T'~.
Page S-2
1. As previously discussed, the power source for this project is on the south side of
Belt Line Road. The existing overhead electric on the north side is a private line to
the Eller Sign Company. Therefore, the controller will need to be relocated to the
south side of the roadway.
2. Under your conduit runs note that Conduit #2 and #17 should also be bored.
3. It is my understanding that the traffic light and the intersection will be designed to
accommodate the future loops and detectors for the north bound roadway out of the
apartment complex. Is there any conduit, etc. that needs to be installed ' '
to insure that that can be accomplished with minimum disruption in the ~mthr~'?nne
There are also various other minor conunents throughout the plans that need attention.
Specifications:
In regard to the proposal, please evaluate the following items to insure the
quantities are correct:
#9 - Changes due to 30 lbs per/sy
#18 - Only see one southbound advisory marker
#36 - Should be #14 lead
#39 - Quantity appears wrong and it should be #20 conductor
#40 - Quantity appears incorrect, should be 4 opticom detectors
#51 - Indicate where this is located
#52, 53 & 54 - Appear to have inaccurate quantities
#68 - Will ~ihange
I appreciate the thoroughness of which the preliminary plans were provided to the City.
It did make our review much quicker. If you should have any questions please feel
flee to contact me at your convenience. If not, I look forward to working with you to
finalize the construction plans.
Sincerely,
Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E.
