RE: M.J. Design Subgrade Stabilization
Dear Mr. Chovan:
I have received and reviewed a letter from Terracon Consultants, Inc. concerning the deletion of
stabilized subgrade for the M.J. Design parking lot. The report was submitted in accordance with the
Subdivision Rules and Regulations which states that in lieu of the subgrade requirements the
recommendation of a soils engineering firm familiar with local conditions may be substituted.
As we have spoken in the past, I am uncomfortable with the deletion of the requirement for the
stabilization of the subgrade as the PI's on this site are quite high. Some actually are in the low forty
range. However, I am assuming that the representatives from Terracon are familiar with the local
conditions and that because they have signed and sealed the recommendation that it is their opinion that
the stabilized subgrade will not enhance the parking lot areas of M.J. Designs. Based on their
recommendation, the automobile and light truck parking will be 6" thick concrete, the drive lanes will
be 7" thick concrete, and the heavy truck areas will be 8" thick concrete.
If you should have any questions concerning this issue please feel free to contact me at your
convenience.
Sincerely,
Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E.
