Dear Shohre:
I have reviewed the right hand deceleration lane entering into
said subdivision off Sandy Lake Road. I am concerned about
using this lane on an unimproved roadway for the following
reasons.
(1) Traffic tends to use this lane to move around a car which
is making a left turn on Sandy Lake Road. This in turn may cause
a potential conflict with a vehicle exiting said subdivision
to Sandy Lake Road. I do not recommend this type lane for
subdivisions, but it should be restricted to commercial tracts.
(2) The use of these lanes along Sandy Lake Road causes
interference in the traffic flow which should ideally be
channelized.
I recommend that if the traffic is of such magnitude that
congestion occurs, then an improved roadway should be considered.
