Pursuant to our earl/er meetings, thb letter/~ being forwarded to you ~on behalf of the Owner to respectfully request that Airline Drive be included on 'the City's Major 'l~horo~ghfare Plan and that Southwestern Drive be re-al/gned on thc Thoroughfare Plan to inter, oct ~v/th ~*reeport Parkway in accordance w/th the ex/sting alignment. Eacl~ of these rcquc~t~ are cop. si~tent with Coppell's Major Thoroughfare Plan and arc consistent w/th ~tabli~hed land planning -prin~ciple~.. . Airline Drive i/ an east/west street which runs between Belt Li~e Road and Freeport Parkway. Airl/ne Drive .func~ons as a two-lane undiv/ded ~ollector (C'2U) and d/stfibutc~ Iraffic from thc arterials (B~lt~ L/ne,'. Southwestern Drive and Freeport Parkway) to th secondary street system and prov/des-~d~t access te existing and proposed commercial and indu~tr/al land uses. According to Table I o£ the City's;Major Thoroughfare Plan, Roadway Functional Class/ficafion and C-~neraI ~lannin_~ Outlines! coUe//tor streets should be spaced between one-quarter m/le (i,360 fee~:) to one- half mile (2,720 feet) apart. A closer spacing /s recommended /n commercial and lggh density re.~idcntial dbtric,~. A/ri/nc Dr/ye meets this guideline by be/ng approx/mat¢ly 1,300 feet fzom Wrangler Drive a~d 1,400 feet from Southwestern Drive. A review of the planning guideline~ in the Major Thoroughfare pixall sho that A/rtine Drive mcct all of crit¢ for a collectot' street. SouthWestern I~.riv¢ i~ a four-la~ divided arterial between Belt L/nc Road and Freeport Parkway. However, about 750 fcct ca~t of Freeport Parkway, Southwestern Drive tums to the south which w/Il result in an iawkward alignment. It/s our view that it make~ more sense to re-al/gn Southwestern Drive to lremove this bend and have the arterial intcr~ect w/th Freeport Parkway approximately"'~f~t Borth its pre~ent alignment. Such a reaUgnment w/Il also result in a larger dcvelopabIe tr~rCt consi~.Zent with the Park West Commerce Center. · Mr. Ken Grit'~ May 4, 1995 Bag¢ 2 Please revt~ tlke request and schedule it for consideration by the City Council You assistance with th~ matter is appr~iated.
