RE: Fairway Drive Project # ST 96-04 .
Dear Ms. Seidner:
This.' letttr is written as a follow-up to our telephone conversation on December 6, 1996 in
which X requested the process the City of Coppell would have to follow to formally request
that DART consider a new crossing at the intersection of Fairway Drive and Belt Line
Road.
Please be advised that this is a formal request for DART to consider a new crossing at the
intersection of Fairway and Belt Line. R is my understanding that the current DART
position is that to obtain a crossing a municipality should be willing to give up two existing
cro~dngs. At a bare minimum, the municipality should be wHilng to give one for one.
However, as I explained during our conversation the City of Coppell does not have any
crossings which it could give up to obtain the new crossing at Fairway Drive. During the
course at our conversation, you also indicated that there were other options available to a
municipality should as signalizing other unprotected crossings in town, putting up curb
stops to eliminate traffic from going around the crossing arms, etc. The City of Coppell
is very interested in obtaining a positive recommendation for approval from DART staff
when this request is processed to the DART Board. Therefore, I recommend that prior to
this request being processed, that City of Coppell representatives meet with DART
representatives to discuss aH options available. Please let me know what would be a
convenimt time for that meeting to take place.
If you should have any questions or ~eed any additional information please feel free to
contact this office at your convenience.
Sincerely,
