Park West CC(15.1)-LR 941021reed engineering GEOTECHNICAL CONSULTANTS October 21, 1994 Project No. 1920.2 Report No. 1 LoneStar Plywood and Door Corporation 600 N. Wildwood Irving, Texas ATTN: Mr. Danny McQuary Re: Construction Materials Testing LoneStar Plywood and Door Corporation Coppell, Texas Gentlemen: Submitted here are the results of testing and observation of construction materials at the referenced project. This report addresses the activities for the period of August 24 through October 14, 1994. During the referenced period, four samples of the natural subgrade and two samples of "select" fill were obtained and returned to the laboratory for development of optimum moisture-density relationships (Standard Proctor Curves). Test results are attached as Plates 1 through 6. During the period of August 29 through October 13, 1994, a total of 181 field density tests were taken on paving and building pad subgrade, natural fill, "select" fill and utility backfill. Test results are shown on Plates 7 through 12. Where tested, materials were.found to be in compliance with project specifications, except as noted. Where materials were not in compliance, the soils were reworked and retested. Test failures and retests are noted in lower and upper case letters, respectively. During the period of September 12 to 24, 1994, water pressure injection operations were observed. During this period, approximately 108,275 square feet of building pad was injected with two passes of water. Injections were performed to a depth of eight feet below present grade, and extended five feet beyond the building line. 2424 STUTZ DRIVE · SUITE400 · DALLAS, TEXAS75235 · 214/350-5600 · (FAx)214/350-.0019 LoneStar Plywood and Door Corporation Project No. 1920.2/Report No. 1 October 21, 1994 Page 2 Upon completion of the second pass with water, the soil moisture was evaluated by drilling and sampling nine core borings. Borings were drilled on September 23 and 27, 1994. Continuous three-inch diameter samples were obtained to a depth of eight feet. All samples were evaluated for consistency by use of a pocket penetrometer. Pocket penetrometer test results are su~arized on Plate 13. Based on the test results and fill-time observation, additional injections with water were not considered necessary and the building pad was approved for recompaction and placement of "select" fill. Construction of piers was initiated on October 10, 1994. Pier construction was observed and the piers were found to be in compliance with project specifications. Pier designations and depths are shown on Plates 14 through 17. Pier designations provided on the pier log were shown on Sheet Nos. S-1 and S-2 of the project plans. Samples of the pier concrete were obtained on a daily basis. Compressive strength test results will be submitted under separate cover. Additional reports will be submitted as the work progresses. have any questions, do not hesitate to call. If you Sincerely, [NC. Ronald F. Reed, P.E.
