C~ll (Raintree Vi31a~we have been subjected to a situation
t~we ~onsi~~h~ re?st troublesome and frustrating situa-
tio~%ave~een involved with in our 42 years of building new
homes. And that problem deals with dealing on a daily basis with the
City of Coppell Building Inspection Department. Although we had some
prior awarem~ss of the reputation of this department as told to us
by 20-25% of the subcont, ractors who either refused to work here or
ask for a premi~ to compensate for the loss of productivity this
situation creates, we still couldn't imagine the validity of the
accusations. Having been involved in home building in Los Angeles,
Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Enid, Wichita, Kansas, Flower Mound, North
Richland Hills, Garland, Dallas and Carrollton, we have had a great
deal of involvement with municipal building inspectors, FHA & VA
inspections, home warranty and financial institution inspections
and .hundreds of home buyers, we have never been involved with an
inspection situation that is even remotely close to being as in-
appropriate and troublesome. The additional costs (approximately
$1,600.00 per house, created by this situation) to our home buyers
(the present and future citizens of Coppell).our company and the
City of Coppell are totally unwarranted. Not only is this situation
costly in terms of material and. a great deal of lost time, but it
creates a great deal of frustration among subcontractors, Paris Homes
employees and our home buyers.
We could sight examples of this situation for pages but let me suffice it
to say that we're getting approximately 30 times as many "Red Tags"
as we have gotten in the past in other cities. I would also like to
add that in 42 years of building, the most serious problem we have had
with a new home cost less than $500 to correct, which causes me to
think of the old addage "If it ain"t broke, don't fix it".
RAhNTREE VILLAGE / 501 Lake Forest / Coppell, Texas 75019
We understand this is not just directed at our operation, having talked
with people with General Homes, Jim Jenne Homes and having attended a
meeting recently with the inspection department and the other builders of
Coppell.
A first class city with such a wonderful future shouldn't' allow itself to
be stifled or stigmatized by this sort of problem. We ask for the citizens
of Coppell, the City of Coppell and for Paris Homes that this situation
be given serious consideration as quickly as possible.
