BOX 4:~0 972-771-9511 ROCKWALL, TX 750~7 1-972-722-1114 (fax) Fax Ken Griffin, City Engineer Department of Engineering City of Coppell P O Box 478 Coppell, TX 75019 REF: Median paving, Freeport Parkway Bid Item I-2 of our Freeport Parkway Reconstruct Project sets up 250 SY of median paving ~$42.00/SY for a total of $10,500.00. The scheduled repairs are shown at four locations (M-1 through M4) and indicate replacement of 4" thick concrete that is severely damaged at those four locations. The actual field measurement of the damaged median totals 157 SY for a cost of $6,594.00. Please note that the repair M-4 has been eliminated since a let turn lane is being built at this location al the expense of the Koll Center Project now under construction. However, I have added a location at the Gateway crossover that is also in serious need of replacement. Median Paving damaged areas: M-1 59 SY ~, 9 M-2 53 SY ~ ~ M-3 15 SY ~ ~c Gateway 30 SY 157 SY Because of the inevitability of future damage due to the heavy track traffic at the intersections and crossovers, I recommend the installation of a monolithic median nose at the M-3 instead of the median pavement as scheduled. This will be easier on the traffic and stru~urally more maintainable s4_nce the median area would be poured monolithic 08/06/01 MON 10:37 FAX 9727221114 ~004 with the curb and the concrete thickness would graduate from 11" to 14" thick instead oi' the 4" cap. The recommended procedure to install the mono median nose is as follows: 1. Sawcut and remove existing curb a~d gutter and median paving. 2. Excavate 6" below subgrade and install 6" of C.T.B. or lime stabilization. 3. Pour reinforced concrete median nose to replace $" pavement and 6" curb. The following prices are submitted ibr your consideration as a umt pr/cc to repair and remove each median nose: A. FuR-width median nose (+/-14') $2,200.00 B. Turn lane median nose (+/-4') 900.00 A detail of the turn lane median nose as approved for the Koll Center Project is attached. The full-width nose would be along the same design only wider. Median nose work would have to be done aider all north and southbound lane repairs have been completed and open to trsf~e. Local barricading would be required to move traffic toward the outside lanes since portions of both inside lanes would be removed, In addition ~o the replacement at the M-3 location, I recommend that the crossovers at Gateway and Fritz as well as the mm lane at Airline be considered for replacement at this time. 05/06/01 i~ON 10:38 FAX 9727221114 ~]005 , '-' ~ ~' PLAN '., ~ SECTION A-I . .,.d--~5 STIRRUP BARS PAYMENT REINF BARS < SEC~ON B-B < MEDMN END DETAIL
