COPPERSTONE DEVELOPMENT TRAIl,
The above refen~nced trail is identified within the Coppell System Wide Tndi System Master
Plan as a pan of the Denton Creek Trail. Located along the Copperstone Development, this
hike and bike Wail runs along the southern section of Denton Creek, with connections from
the Villages of Cottonwood VI as well as Andrew Brown, Jr. Community Park West.
Because the Denton Creek Trail has been identified as a Primary Corridor, the desired hilce
and bike trail width would be twelve feet (12'), with three feet shoulders on each side of the
trail.
The section of the trail that connects Andrew Brown Park West and Villages of Cottonwood
VI has approximately 1,300 linear feet of trail. As a point of information, the Villages of
Cottonwood concrete trail is approximately 1,475 feet in leagth. The limestone screened
trail at Andrew Brown, ~r. Community Park West is approximately 6,600 feet in length.
Onc~ the middle section df Copperstone has been constructed, there will be over 1.77miles
of multi-purpose trail along Denton Creek, west of Denton Tap Road.
Ken,
While preparing the information that you needed for the hike and bike trail in Copperstone, I
just wanted to provide some information to you.
It is my understanding that you are trying to calculate what the amount of funding would be
necessary to construct the trail along Denton Creek, connecting with the existing trails that
lie in the Villages of Cottonwood subdivision as well as tying into Andrew Brown, Jr.
Community Park West.
In wallchlg along the proposed trail, I made a note of several factors that need to be looked
into when providing a cost estimate of the project. If you have already made note of this,
please disregard.
There appears to be five (5) areas along Denton Creek that have low crossing areas
associated either with previous creek erosion or have recently had drainage outflows placed
at the creek. Each of these areas will require some son of crossing in order to continue the
trail.
Proceeding westward along the creek from the connection to the Andrew Brown Park West
Wail, a distance of approximately 250 feet wffi take you to a concrete outflow sU-ucture.
Another concrete structure appears along the creek approximately 933 feet west from the
Andrew Brown Park West Wail connection.
Other earthen erosion areas appear at the following distances from the Brown Park Wail
connection.
* 292 feet west of Andrew Brown Park trail
* 420 feet west of Andrew Brown Park trail
* ?25 feet west of Andrew Brown Park trail
Also, as a matter of information, the contractor appears to be moving trees fwm the
subdivision to an area along the creek. While the contractor may eventually move this
material from this area, I just wanted to bring this to your attention.
If you would like, Gary or I would be more than happy to meet with you or Mike at the site
to look at this situation. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Rick
