Re: Sandy Lake Road Construction
Dear Gary and Ken:
I know the City will be glad when the construction of Sandy Lake Road begins (and ends).
I wanted to make a request to both of you with respect to the barrier free ramps at each
intersection along Sandy Lake Road.
The last time I looked at the construction documents for this roadway, the barrier free ramps at
each intersection wore to be constructed of concrete with no alternative materials specified. We
all know and understand that even with the extensive landscaping proposed for this project,
Sandy Lake Road will transform from a two-lane "rural" roadway into a four-lane "URBAN" street.
A design feature that would further soften this "urbanization" would be to construct ALL barder
free ramps with bdck pavers to match Parkway Boulevard and other areas of the City. I believe
it is important to implement these types of project design features to assist the City of Coppell
citizens in accepting this project as presented for the 1990 Bond Program vote.
If for some reason the roadway budget can not directly absorb these psvers, maybe some of the
landscaping features can be minimally reduced to implement this request. We can always plant
more trees and shrubs but once the barder free ramps are constructed with concrete wo will
never go back and re-construct out of bavers.
I think the City Staff has done a good job in dealing with the issues of this project but if you don't
mind could you deal with just one more. I personally appreciate it, and in the long run, the
citizens of Coppell will appreciate it also. Thanks.
