Dear Steve:
once again, I'd like to thank you for your support of the the Shadow Ridge
Estates Median Landscape Program. The purpose of this letter is update you
on the status of the program.
Enclosed is a shrunken down copy of the original landscape design (in black
ink) drawn up by Bruce Birdsong (our Beautification Committee Chairman) in
conjunction with Richard Diano (former Parks Director). In blue ink is
what was actually done. As you are aware, a couple of the residents
complained about the removal of the Willow trees so a compromise was
reached where the two largest trees are still standing.
Original Plan
Remove 3 dead tree stumps
Remove 6 Willow trees
(1 was dead, 1 was broken & weak,
1 was full of borers)
Remove 1 half-dead Red Oak tree
Add 7 Bradford Pear trees
Add 4 Red Oak trees
Add 3 Live Oak trees
Refurbish flower beds & weed
Current Status
2 removed, I left
4 removed, 2 largest left
(part of compromise)
Done
Done, all 7 added
Only 3 added (compromise)
Done, all 3 added
Done
The current status includes the compromise where the 2 largest Willow trees
are left and therefore 1 Red Oak tree couldn't be added. Ron McCain
suggested that we might use a stump grinder to remove the one remaining
stump, which we plan to do. There is also a dead Crepe Myrtle near the
flower beds which we plan to replace.
I would not recommend any changes to the design as now "compromised upon".
Our Beautification Committee would like to remove the remaining willows and
we have had complaints about the Willows hanging down in the streets and
causing problems for cars driving by. However, on the other hand, we've
one or two residents who like the idea of the willows providing fast shade
on the pavement and therefore cooling the area and lowering utility bills.
If you have residents requesting changes to landscape design please direct
them to myself or Bruce Birdsong so we are sure to avoid any future
problems, once again, I do think that unless there are exceptionally
strong reasons the best thing to do would be to leave the currently
"compromised" design alone. I am committed to this compromise.
Thanks again for your support and responsiveness.
