RE: Shadow Ridge Estates
Dear Mr. LaHue:
Since receiving your letter proposing a fix for the culvert pipe, I have
discussed the matter with Steve Stolte and would request that you submit
information regarding this matter.
The culvert pipe is of concern, but of more concern is whether the settlement
will adversely impact the alley above and/or other facilities in the immediate
area. I understand that a manhole was installed in this vicinity and we should
be concerned about the backfill operation, tests etc. Please submit your related
construction records with your summary and recommendations, etc.
Therefore, there are two areas of concern; Item 1. what other or additional
settlement may have or will occur and confirmation of the acceptability of the
construction operation in the area that might further contribute to more subgrade
settlement. Item 2 would be the recommended fix on the pipe itself once we feel
fairly comfortable that the subgrade has been stabilized, etc.
Regarding item 2, please submit your recommendation on at least a print of the
approved contract documents (plan and cross-section sheet), exhibiting in
Engineering form the data cited in your letter. Additionally, provide your
detailed calculations regarding verification of the reduced capacity
accommodating the upstream storm water, etc.
Please also discuss the condition of the open joint related to the surcharged
condition ('~dditional 6 inches in headwater") and whether that pressure would
compromise the grouted joints, etc (Perhaps a better joint sealing material
would be in order?).
Please provide the information so we can pursue the resolution to these
conditions. Thank you.
