Re: Sandy Lake Road Water Line
Final Engineering Services Statement
Dear Mr. Griffin:
Please find enclosed Statement Number 96150 (AR), dated January 03, 2000 for professional engineering
services provided through December 31, 1999 on the Sandy Lake Road Water Line project (Project WA -96-
01A).
The basic services for general construction administration is now 100 percent complete and paid in full as of
the date of this letter.
The Special Services for the Re-design of Sandy Lake Road Water Line portion of the statement reflects the
work required to complete the re-alignment of the Sandy Lake Road Water Line. This work was authorized by
an amendment to our agreement dated April 20th, 1999. Our amendment provided for compensation for the
extra work based on actual salary cost times a multiplier of 2.35 and expenses at actual invoice amount times
1.15. Based on our knowledge of the project requirements at that time, we suggested the City budget an
amount in fne range of $6,000 to $6,500.
From our total man-hour expenditures and expenses incurred, our final billing for this work totaled
$13,010.05. The re-design effort exceeded our original estimate primarily due to the following:
1. In order to place the proposed water line just inside the north property line of Wagon Wheel Ranch
Park, we had to re-establish the north boundary of the park property
2. The densely wooded area required more survey time than initially estimated.
3. Our original re-alinged route had to be walked out and adjusted twice for tree mitigation. This
required an extensive and time consuming tree survey and field time for the design engineer.
4. The water line alignment at the intersection of State Road and Grapevine Creek and along the east side
of State Road was more complicated and required more design time than initially conceived.
5. Negotiating the change order with the contractor exceeded our original time effort estimate.
