Coppell Road Reconstruction
Per our conversation of the morning of November 23, 1999, following is a summary of our
request for a letter from GTE supporting a temporary closure of Coppell Road from SH 121 to
the Mansions Apartmems main entrance. Based on information provided by the City's contractor
on the Coppell Road Reconstruction project, the City is pursuing the possibility of closing the
east-west portion of Coppell Road to reduce construction time. The following list of items detail
the information provided to the City and the major issues involved with the closure:
· The east-west portion of Coppell Road would likely be closed beginning early- to mid-
January.
· The duration of the road closure would be an estimated two months.
· The savings in construction time that would result from closing this portion of road
(compared with constructing one lane at a time) would be an estimated four to six weeks
· The closure would leave access to the GTE Shared Services building off of Canyon Drive
and the SH 121 frontage road.
As with any lengthy road closure in the City of Coppell, City Council approval will be required.
As part of the information provided to Council in regards to this closure, the Engineering
Department would like to include a letter from GTE stating support for this closure in the
interest of expediting construction. More importantly, GTE needs to be aware of the
construction activities that are taking place to improve their access. As I mentioned in our
conversation, any written support needs to be provided to the Engineering Department as soon
as possible, preferably on or before December 1. This letter can be forwarded to:
