I visited the site after today' s meeting to look at the tree cluster at the bend, and the junction box in the
alley. The actual tree count in area "P" is difficult to determine, since them are a few double-trunks, and
several very small trees that may have contributed to the "brush" appearance prior to topping. The 16-tme
figure appears to be a good estimate from my observations. Regarding the junction box, it does appear
to lie about five feet further to the east than is shown on the plan. The result of this would be a few extra
feet of pipe at most. The alley would need to be shut down in any case.
I called Ken Johansen at Stantech to discuss the subgrade issue. He is working on a proposal letter to the
City to perform the investigative services and will provide this to us by early next week.
The next lowest bidder for this project was McMahon with a $2,240,404.50 bid. Their bid to construct
the box is the same as Ed Bell' s, and it appears to be relatively consistent with the other bids. Attached
is a copy of the bid tab summary for your information.
Also attached is the first invoice. All information on the invoice appears to be consistent with the progress
made through October 31, 1999. We recommend approval of Invoice No. 1.
