Box 948 Coppell, Texas 75019 ATTN: Mr. Mike Shipman, President Pavement Subgrade Inspection & Testing Overton Bank & Trust Building 102. N. Denton Tap Road CopDell, Texas Dear Sir: As requested on October 27, 1995 and in the presence of Mr. E4sel Keel, Superintendent for Innovative Developers, Inc., we conducted an inspection at the above location. The purpose of this inspection was to document our field notes and to verify the engineering properties of the pavement subgrade soils for the optional lime stabilization scheme as originally specified by the City of Coppell. The following is to summarize our testing results and comments: Two (Z) soil samples were recovered from the existing pavement subgrade after stripping. According to Mr. Edsel Keel, the subgrades were very close to the design elevations. Sample No. i ( at the N.E.corner of the Drive-In-Bank area)- This subgrade soil was classified as a reddish brown clayey sand with sandy clay ( SC-eL group ) lumps having a Plasticity Index of 9 (L.L.=25, P.I.=9) and is considered as a stable ( inactive ) material. Sample No. Z ( at the N.E.corner of the main building area)- This subgrade soil was classified as a greyish brown sandy clay with little clayey sand (SC-CA group) and was tested to have a Plasticity Index of 15 ( L.L.=35, P.I.=15 ) and is considered as an inactive material. Overton Bank & Trust Bldg., Coppell, Tx. Page 2 of 2/95-173-1 Based on our field observation and the test results, and since no additional imported materials will be used, we deem that the proposed lime stabilization scheme is not effective and therefor is not recommended for these sections of the pavement subgrades. However, if highly plastic clay materials are encountered during the remaining part of the paved area or if imported, make-up fills are contemplated, we shall be notified to test and to evaluate the conditions. We trust this is the information requested. Should you have further questions, please call. Thank you. Yours very truly, PARKLAND ENGINEERING & TESTING, INC. Peter Yu, M.S., P.E.
