Box 1226 Rowlett, Texas 75088 RE: Review and Approval of the Febco 806 DDC for Fire Line Application in Valley Ranch Center Dear Mr. Cotton: Per your request, I have reviewed the attached information and find this product to be acceptable for an alternate to the Hersey DDC II. Please remember that the valves installed with this device shall be resilient seat 0 S & Y gate valves. Additionally, in order to gain approval for the use of this type of fire line meter setting, the fire system shall be of the closed interior sprinkler system type with alarm system connected to the City of Coppell's Fire Department communications system and all exterior on site fire hydrants shall be equipped with hydra storz valves located on the 4 1/2" pumper nozzle. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at 462-8495. Sincerely, 1 oward L. Specifications The mainline unit shall consist of two internally spring loaded "Y' figure check valves having cast Iron bodies, bronze replaceable seat rings and 300 series stainless steel si,ems and springs. The stems shall be guided with replaceable bushings in the cover and seat ring to assure positive check seal~ng. All internal cast iron parts shall be epoxy coated. The by-pass line assembly shall consis[ of 'a bronze body internally spring Io~ded double check valve in series with a bronze water meter, All check valve internal paris shall be easily accessible wi[hOur removing [he cl~eck valve body from tho line, Rated to 175 PSI working pressure and water temperatures from 32'F to 140"F. The d~vice shall ~ ~ee[ tl~ r~quir~rn~nt~ ur USC Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research, Sixth Edition, Description The Febco 806 DDC Device mainline unit consists of two .)independent, spdng loaded, "Y" type check valves, two . shut-off valves and four testcocks. The spring loaded poppets in coniunction with soft elastomer discs provide drip tight closure acjainst ba~:kfiuw. Th~ 'Y" ~ttt~rn valve desigq provides Iow pressure I~ss al, the high flow rates. The shut-of/valves are OS&Y type, UL listed for fireline The by-pass line assembly Consists of a water meter in series with a double check valve. The meter is the total type with accurate registration between 1 and 20 gpm flow rates. The double check consists of two independently acting, spring loaded, poppet [ypu check valves. The static pressure drop across both checks is approximately 2 PSI less than the mainline check valves, All flow up to approximately ten (10) gpm is through the by-pass line, Above this flow rate the mainline check valves begin to open and flow occurs through the mainline and tl~e Dy-pass line. This operation at Iow flow rates is accomplished by designing the differential pressure drop across the by-pas~ double check valve to be slightly less Ihan the mainline double check valve. Therefore, the main- line check valve remains closed so that any flow through the flreline system is registered by the by-pass meter. Materials Mainline units have cast iron bodie~ with internal epoxy coating and bronze trim. ~/~" by-pass units have bronze bodies with bronze trim. Nitrile seat discs. Gate valves supplied on the mainline are OS&Y, The by-pass gate valves are non-rising stem. Typical Applications Fire scrvicc pipelines Installation Double Detector Check Valve Backflow Preventers should be installed with minimum clearance of 12" between device Protective Enclosure and floor o~ grade. They should be installed where easily accessible for lasting and maintenance and must be protected from freezing. They should have support blocks tO prevent flange damage.
