SUBJECT:
Coppell Road Pedestrian Rail
DATE:
December 20, 2000
Copy to: Mike Martin
After meeting at the site today with you and Mr. Martin, I returned to the office and spoke with Alan
Greet about the railing around the turn, and the screening of the box culvert. I informed Alan of the
revised location of the sidewalk in the turn, and that the plan location of the railing puts the railing
into the sidewalk. I also expressed the City' s question of the necessity of the railing in this location
and if the railing could be utilized in another location. Alan explained to me that the railing is
needed to protect cars from running through the turn. He wants the tail to be placed as close to plans
as possible. Since the sidewalk is approximately 2' off the back of curb, the rail needs to be installed
as close to the sidewalk as possible. Also, for the sight distance problems for The Mansion' s north
drive, Alan would like to see the rail shifted approximately 10' to the south, or the railing cut down
to stop 10' further south than it is shown. Please inform the contractor of this as to insure proper
installation, and maintain maximum clearance off the road, and contact me or Alan with any
concerns and questions.
As for the screening for the box culvert outlet, Alan stated the photenias were used as a less
expensive alternative for pedestrian screening. The question was brought up to try and plant the
photenias, and move them out toward the street to obtain more ground cover over the box culvert.
This can be discussed further between FNI and the City of Coppell if needed.
Please relay this information about the PR- 1 rail on to Ed Bell so he can inform his sub-contractor
as to the intended placement of the railing.
Please call if you have any questions.
Thank you
