Re: Wrangler Drive Reconstruction Project (Project No. ST 96-01)
Dear Michael:
Per your request we have estimated the cost of relocating the existing 12-inch water line in Wrangler
Drive, should that become necessary. For the purposes of preparing this estimate, we included the
relocation/adjustment of all the existing 12-inch water line from the west side of the school tract (Sta.
8+30) to a point just west of Crestside Drive (Sta. 22+80). If the adjustment of this line was actually
required, it might be possible to save some portions of the existing line, thereby reducing the scope and
cost of the relocation. We estimate that the cost of relocating this entire section of line would be $65,000 -
$75,000, using Tiseo's unit prices for this project. We would recommend that the elevation of the existing
water line east of Crestside Drive be verified as soon as possible, however, looking at the roadway cross-
sections, it does not appear that there will be any measurable cut over the existing line through that portion
of the project.
In my opinion, the minimum cover from the top of the subgrade to the top of pipe needs to be eighteen (18)
inches. Anything less and I would recommend that the line either be relocated or protected in some
manner from excessive loads during construction (i.e. pouring a concrete cap or laying a steel plate). If
there are locations where the cover over the pipe is less than 12-inches, I would recommend that the line
simply be relocated. Those are my thoughts for now. Larry informed me of the meeting today at 2:00
p.m. with the Contractor. I guess that I will see you then and hopefully this issue can be resolved.
