Re: Denton Creek/Coppell City Park
Dear Alan:
When Lomas & Nettleton~s Vista Ridge Project was originally pro-
posed, it came to the attention of the City and ourselves that
their flood relief channell might possibly result in a diversion
of water along Denton Creek which could eventually damage the
natural vegetation. Because of our mutual property interests in
this regard, both the City and our Company registered a complaint
before the Texas Water Commission at the time the Vista Ridge
Reclamation Project was approved. Futher the City caused an
en~±ronmen~&l~assessment'to be prepared which ~erified ~he.,~amage.
As a result of that complaint, the Water. Commission required the
installation of a check dam at the con_~'~ence of the natural channel
of Denton Creek and the flood relief channel in order to maintain
a normal flow of water into the natural channel, of Denton:;.Creeki.!
We have make periodic checks over'the last two years of that water
flow and, until recently, it has appeared to continue undisturbed.
However I noticed in February 9f this year that the water level in
Denton Creek, east of the conf(uence was lower than I had ever
seen it. When I went to look at the check dam, I could not find
it. It appears to have been removed in the process of some con-
struction work in that area.
I took some photographs while I was on the site to compare with
some previous photographs that I had taken. Please call me after
you have received this to discuss how the City may want to proceed
with this matter as it could have serious long term consequences
for your park. I have enclosed a copy of the order of the Texas
Water Commission approving the Vista Ridge Reclamation. Please
note paragraph five on page five which was included in responce
to our objections. To my knowledge we have not received the
report that was referenced therein. Please look and see if the
City has re~ivad any such
