Dear Jim:
I appreciated the chance to speak with you yesterday about some neighborhood concerns.
As I told you, there has been a significant increase in traffic in my subdivision which
includes Waters Edge I, offMacArthur at Laguna Drive, as well as the second section
which begins at Sandy Lake Road at Fountain View. Although much of this usage is
during rush hour when people cut through our streets to avoid the MacArthur/Sandy Lake
intersection, that usage is also evident throughout the day. Of significant concern is the
fact that vehicles are using our streets at a high rate of speed. This is a neighborhood with
many small children and so we are all quite worded about their safety. We are also
troubled by the effect of this increased traffic volume on the general neighborhood
character. When the Sandy Lake expansion project begins, our problems will only get
worse.
I know that the City continues to work on these kinds of issues and so I would appreciate
your help with our problems. We would like to have the police department arrange for
some traffic monitoring at different times during the day. We also ask that you think
about some traffic calming initiatives in the neighborhood that would alleviate the traffic
and safety problems we are faced with.
If you'd let me know how things are progressing on your end, I'll make certain to keep my
neighbors advised.
