Engineering and Public Works City of Coppell 255 Parkway Blvd. Coppell, Texas 75019-4409 Re: Coppell Road Reconstruction SH 12! to Sandy Lake Road Coppell Project #: ST'98-Ol Dear Mr. Collins: As you are aware portions of the keyway on the section of pavement poured from the Mansions entrance to SH 121 are unacceptable. We propose replacement of the unacceptable keyway with a longitudinal butt joint. Many of the municipalities subject to the NCTCOG specifications accept this butt joint as an a!temative to the keyway joint and as the preferred method to tie into an existing slab. I have included ~opies of the standard details for'this joint from the City of Allen and the City of Mansfield for your review. Subject to your approval, EBCC would remove the unacceptable keyway by sawing the concrete slab two to three inches from the edge of the slab. After removing the excess concrete, EBCC would prepare the edge of the slab for dowel bars in accordance with the detail selected by your office. Please inform our office of your decision regarding this proposal. If you have any questions regarding this information, don't hesitate to contact our office.
