RE: Wrangler Drive Construction Project - ST 96-01
Dear Mr. EchoIs:
The City of Coppell is currendy finalizing the construction plans for Wrangler Drive. It is our intention to
put this project out to bid in late March 1998, with possible start of construction in May or ea~y June
1998. Our goal is to attempt to coordinate the start of construction with the end of school to minimize
disruption. We are also attempting to provide wording in the contract to mandate that the contractor
complete the section from Freeport to Enterprise as a first phase. This should allow better access to the
school while the remainder of the project is under construction.
In late 1997, a schematic was provided to the CISD showing proposed locations and configurations of
driveways. As of this date there has been no confirmation from the CISD concerning those driveway
locations or configurations and as such we are proceeding on with the project. As a reminder, five
driveways are being provided to the school site: one is on the west side of the football field (this is
curren~y a dirt access); one is on the east side of the football field; two are being provided to the parking
lot that currently fronts onto Wrangler Drive (one on the far east end and one on the far west end); and a
divided driveway is being proposed for the far east approach to the middle school. As we previously
discussed, the construction of the divided drive approach at the far east end of CMS West will necessitate
that the school district provide some on-site paving to accommodate traffic from Wrangler Drive to the
parking lot and student drop-off on the east side of CMS West.
I noticed today that it appears as though sometime in the prior weeks an irrigation system has been newly
constructed in the vicinity of where the divided driveway would go and also in the vicinity of where any
additional on-site paving would be required by the CISD to facilitate traffic movement. At the time of
construction there will need to be coordination between the City, the City's contractor and the CISD to
relocate some sprinkler heads to avoid conflict with the proposed drive approach.
Again, we are f'malizing construction plans and hope to put the project out to bid in late March 1998. If
you do have any concerns or questions about access to or from the school please contact me at your
earliest convenience so that we can attempt to address those issues before we go out for bids. Thank you
for your consideration of this matter.
