Mr. Taylor,
Thank you for your email. This work is being done by the developer of that subdivision. This was not part of the City’s
street department annual street and alley projects. We will not accept the subdivision until this concrete work and your
sod in front of your house is complete. My understanding is that the concrete work will be completed this week
depending on the weather, and the sod replacement will follow soon after. Marcus Marion is our inspector over that
project, I have copied him on this email and his phone number is 469-476-7707.
If you have any questions, please contact me at your convenience,
Thanks
Mike

Mr. Garza,

Forwarding on to you, as you are listed on the Streets web page for the City of Coppell, Asst. Director of Public
Works. I received an error when attempting to email Rick O’Dell as the Streets Supervisor. Not sure if he is
around any longer.

Streets Department,
I am a resident at Coppell address 144 Summer Place Drive. Almost 6 months ago, on or around March 7,
2018, a city Streets crew came out to Summer Place Drive and cut yard-wide section out of and completely
across the street. Also, a section of the curb at 144 Summer Place drive was cut and removed, along with a
section of sidewalk. All of this work was to accommodate a water tap-in for a new home development that was
just to the west of the street (or so we were told). The adjacent alley-way (immediately across from 144
Summer Place Drive) was also torn up for the same cause of work. The alley-way has long since been
repaired.
The section cut out of the street and sidewalk was filled in with asphalt. In the street, that asphalt has settled
and now is very rough to drive over due to the discrepancy in the height of the street concrete and the lesser
height of the asphalt.
In front of my house (in my front yard), now for 6 months:
1) the street remains unrepaired
2) the curb is still missing where it was cut out
3) the sidewalk is still unrepaired with an asphalt section
4) my lawn has not been re-sodded where my lawn was removed for the work
It is amazing to me that this remains in this condition for such a long time. I can’t imagine that it has been left
that way for additional/future work because the alley-way was already repaired months ago. It is almost like it
has been forgotten. Up until last week I had a large 4-foot orange traffic cone in my yard, but that was just
recently either picked up or stolen, but it is gone.
From the city website (http://www.coppelltx.gov/government/departments/streets), I found the following
(emphasis mine):
The Public Works Department provides administration and oversight of the Annual Street, Alley & Curb
Repair Projects. These projects are conducted generally between April and December of each year using
the list of addresses requested or called in for repair from the previous year.
If a street needs repair, a curb is crumbling or an alley is sinking a work order will be issued for evaluation
and measurement of the location. The address will be added to a list for repair during next year's
contract period. In emergency cases repairs will be made as soon as possible.

You have got to be kidding me! A yearly cycle? This isn’t a repair request due to natural wear or
deterioration. The current condition is a result of destructive actions taken by the Streets Department with a
sub-par attempt at a ‘temporary’ repair.
I would like to know of the city’s plan to perform the repairs, especially when the repairs will take place. I look
forward to your response.
Respectfully,
Mark N. Taylor
