Darryl,
The use of dowels at interior bents is a standard TXDOT Bridge practice to ensure lateral stability of the superstructure.
The receiving end of the bridge girder uses a slotted hole which allows for some longitudinal tolerance during
installation, so we would not expect any issue to arise during placement.
We recommend to keep the dowels as shown in the drawings, unless the contractor has a more specific concern about
the placement of the beams.
