Renovation of North Service Center, 732 Deforest Road
Thank you for your interest and recommendation addressing the
renovation of the North Service Center located at 732 Deforest, as
referenced in your memorandum. Space planning has been provided for
this location to address not only the immediate, but future needs for
this facility.
The four division managers housed at the Service Center will each
receive an office measuring approximately 150 to 180 square feet
located at each corner of the existing facility. The center of the
facility should be designated for secretarial support for these
functions to be filled by Darlene Greene and Barbara Coleman.
Based on sound facilities space planning, the Fleet Services Manager
should be located nearest the garage entrance which is located on the
southwest corner of the facility. The fuel management and security
systems will be located in the present offices occupied with the Fleet
Services Manager and Facilities Manager.
The other three division managers (Howard Pafford, Rey Gonzales, and
Dennis Slayton) should be provided comparable offices in the remaining
three corners measuring approximately 150 to 180 square feet. These
are the space planning standards developed as discussed previously in
a meeting with both you and Clay Phillips. Regarding where the
managers are located (excluding Ernie Ramos), we can discuss this if
it is a real concern of yours.
The back office area should be used for additional storage area and a
place for field forces to fill out paperwork and field statistics, and
for future computer access. The conference room should remain intact.
This arrangement will allow for existing as well as future
requirements for this facility, will provide for better city services,
and establish fair, consistent, and unemotional space planning
standards for all parties.
Since both our departments share this facility, I hope we can work
together in a professional manner to address the needs. Thank you
again for your interest in this endeavor and I will be happy to
discuss this and other matters as necessary.

Office Locations at Service Center
first of the new year
D ate:

I have given additional thought to our conversation concerning where people should be located, after
Sheri, Donna and yourself move to Town Center. It is my opinion that the following makes sense
based upon the activities that the various people will perform at the Service Center.
The following represents my recommendation:
Emie should remain where he is now located. If he needs a larger office, the dividing wall
between he and Sheri's current office can be removed. It only makes sense that Emie be
located by the door that leads directly to the service bays so that he can access the service
bays efficiently as needed.
Dennis should be located in one of the offices in the breakroom area that are currently being
shared by Howard and Rey. If that office is inadequate, then the dividing wall can be taken
down to create a larger office.
3. Howard should be relocated to the office that is currently occupied by yourself.
An office of comparable size should be constructed for Rey in the northwest corner of the
Service Center, i.e., on the wall separating the office area from the break room area.
Once Rey's office has been constructed, the file cabinets can be relocated and Barbara
Coleman can be relocated between the two offices to provide clerical support as needed.
Also, because of walk-ins, Darlene would still be located to the right hand side of the door
as you walk into the Service Center so that she is visible to walk-in traffic.
I believe the above makes the most sense for the configuration of the office space at the Service
Center. If you are proposing to do anything different, I would request that you contact me prior
to making any decisions so that those decisions can be discussed. If you have any questions please
feel free to contact me at your convenience.
