Re:
W&A #94-093; 16" Water Line,
Denton Tap Road;
Coppell, Texas
Dear Ken:
Attached are two copies each of Preliminary Construction Plans and
Specifications for the proposed 16" Water Main in Denton Tap Road. We
utilized our standard document format and forms for the contract documents.
You may have standard documents you prefer using and we can insert your
standards as directed. We assumed you had a specific Maintenance Bond form
and will need a copy for the final contract documents along with a Wage Rate
Table. We are aware you use a numbering system for water line projects,
please provide a Water Line Project Number for inclusion in the documents.
In the construction plans we assumed the GTE ducts on the bridge
abutments would be removed. If you are not sure, we can detail the alternate
pier method near the abutments and bid the plans with alternate bids.
We know several issues are not determined as yet which will impact the
design. We made assumptions and completed plans to allow you plenty of time
tO review the plans. Fire hydrant locations were indicated and you may wish to
locate these elsewhere or even eliminate fire hydrants. In most cases fire
hydrants will need to be adjusted in the future when the roadway is improved.
Also, we did not indicate air release valve locations since you may chose to
place fire hydrants at high points for manual release of air. Please indicate your
preference for fire hydrant and air release valve locations and we will revise the
plans accordingly.
Mr. Ken Griffin, P.E.

The proposed water line is shown 7-feet back of the future curb at the
north part of the project. This will cause the alignment to be close to the existing
barb-wire fence. If the line is moved to 4-feet back of curb, the existing fence
can be left in place if the contractor works from the east side of the trench for all
excavation and installation activities. Construction easement locations will
depend on the actual final pipeline alignment so they are not shown at this time.
The City's Standard Details were not clear on trench compaction and
testing. We provided specifications for compaction and testing under Item 1.6
Testing and Item 1.19 Trench Compaction under the Division I General
Requirements.
By copy of this letter we have forwarded one set of plans to Howard
Pafford. Please call us when you are ready to go over your review of the
Preliminary Plans and Contract Documents.
We suggest forwarding a copy of the plans to the public utilities once the
first review is complete and we have not forwarded plans to GTE as yet.
Very truly yours,
ULY~N~ R .Y P.L. S.
