Subject: RE: Gabions
From my understanding Lar~ looked at the design of the gabions and he felt
~ike we needed some additional gabions in the mid section of the wall to
prevent ove~urning of the wall. Apparently Craig Olden agreed and added
the additional gabions per the sketch. I'll fax you a copy of the sketch
this afternoon.
I actually just spoke to Jeff Tanner with Olden regarding the gabions. They
actually shot some spot grades for the smaller of the two gabion walls and
apparently the bottom elevation is a little lower than what we have shown on
our plans. He suggested that we add another row of gabions so that the top
of the wall is closer to the top of curb elevation. I told him to send me a
letter describing the revision. I think it would be in our best interest to
add this extra row of gabions to the smaller wall. This may add another
$2500-$3000 to the change order.

If you could just e-mail an explaination of why the design change was needed
and a fax a copy of the sketch, I think that would do. Neither Larry nor I
have discussed the change with Ken and I need to know why the design change
was necessary before I talk with him. Larry has told Olden that we do not
have a change order yet. I do not think there will be a problem, but I need
to have the back-up.

I received a fax from ISI with a sketch from Craig Olden showing a revision
to the original gabion design on January 4th. I discussed this revision
with Jeff Tanner, with Craig Olden, and he explained to me why the
additional gabions are needed. I responded to their letter on the 8th
agreeing with the additional gabions. I sent a copy of this letter to you
and to Philip. Do I need to put together another letter with the sketch?
Is there any reason to think that the Change Order won't go through?

Subject: Gabions
Chris:
Larry told me that Olden is working on the installation of the gabions
today. I received a copy of the letter recommending a change order in the
amount of $9616.32 for the increase in cubic yards of the gabions. Could
you prepare a letter explaining the need for the change order. Did the
original design as shown in the plans change? I will also need a copy of
the sketch Olden submitted. Larry has not told them to stop working, should
we notify Olden that a change order has not been signed?
Thanks
