Re:
GUARD RAIL FEASIBILITY
Freeport Parkway Extension Between Bethel and Ruby Road
Duke-Freeport Addition -- ' ~ ~
Coppell, Dallas County, Texas
Dear Mr. Griffen:
At the request of Mr. Larry Davis, of your office, Pacheco Koch has reviewed the
desirability of placing guard rails along Freeport Parkway in areas adjacent to the
detention ponds associated with the above referenced project.
To determine if a guard rail was warranted, Pacheco Koch used the design requirements
as recommended by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation
Officials (AASHTO) in a publication titled "Guide For Selecting, Locating, and Designing
Traffic Barriers" dated 1977. By following Figures III-A-1 and Figure III-A-3 of this
publication and using the following assumptions:
· A design speed for Freeport Parkway of 45 mph
· A clear width of twenty-five (25) feet to the maximum water surface elevation (i.e.
100-year storm event) as measured from the back of curb to the water surface
elevation
· Aside slopea4:l
It was determined that that a guard rail would not be warranted.
question please do not hesitate to call.
