To determine if a guard rail was warranted, Pacheco Koch used the design requirements as recommended by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) in a publication titled "Guide For Selecting, Locating, and Designing Traffic Barriers" dated 1977. By following Figures III-A-1 and Figure III-A-3 of this publication and using the following assumptions: · A design speed for Freeport Parkway of 45 mph · A clear width of twenty-five (25) feet to the maximum water surface elevation (i.e. 100-year storm event) as measured from the back of curb to the water surface elevation · Aside slopea4:l It was determined that that a guard rail would not be warranted. question please do not hesitate to call.
