CF-Village-CS010927 MEMORANDUM FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS To: Ken Griffin, P.E., Director of Engineering/Public Works From: Glenn D. Hollowell, P.E., Asst. Dir. of Public Works Date: September 27, 2001 RE: Gate at Village Parkway Pump Station Dear Ken: Last Friday evening, we discovered the driveway gate at the pump station had been vandalized. Someone had cut DWU's lock off of the chain. Chuck Hancock was the last employee to leave the pump station on Friday. He left around 4:30pm. He had worked late repairing the chlorine injector. He distinctly remembers locking the gate. He was called back out around 9:00pm to check on a chlorine leak. When they arrived, they discovered the gate wide open and no chain or locks. They contacted Ted Dutt. Ted instructed them to look the entire area over and determine if any damage had been done. They inspected the entire area and could not find any signs that any damage had been done. There were several vehicles inside the gate that were undamaged. None of the locks on the tanks had been tampered with. They could not find any signs that anything had been touched. Chuck contacted P. D. and requested that they patrol the area on a more regular basis. He then replaced the chain and lock. Ted contacted me on Saturday and told me what had happened. On Tuesday, Chuck discovered the old chain in the grass next to the fence. He does not know if he just missed it Friday night or if it had been brought back. It would not surprise me to discover that DWU had cut the lock off. They occasionally have to get in the vault behind the tanks and work on their telemetry equipment. On several occasions, they have gone in through our gate instead of using the gate by the vault. Tonia is chasing down that possibility. If you have any further questions regarding this matter, do not hesitate to call. c~rr or coPP£~ PV~tc ~onrs o£P~nr~4~vr
